World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated with Tree Plantation Initiative.

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, a grand environmental awareness and tree plantation programme was organized in coordination with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai Port Authority (MPA), Amazing Nautical Association, Sailors' Union of India (SUI), and several other maritime organizations and stakeholders.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Shyam Jagannathan, I.A.S., Director General of Shipping, Government of India, who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, sustainable development, and collective responsibility in combating climate change and global warming. He highlighted the need for every individual and organization to contribute towards protecting the environment for future generations.

During the event, representatives from various maritime organizations, shipping companies, training institutes, and seafarers participated enthusiastically and pledged their commitment to environmental protection. As part of the celebrations, the participating organizations jointly announced an ambitious initiative to plant 2,000 saplings across different locations. Each organization has committed to contributing saplings and ensuring their proper maintenance and growth.

The initiative is in line with the Government of India's environmental vision and supports the nationwide campaign of tree plantation and ecological restoration. The participants also expressed support for the Hon'ble Prime Minister's environmental initiatives, including "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam", which encourages citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers and contribute to a greener and healthier planet. The programme served as a reminder that environmental protection is not only a social responsibility but also a moral obligation. Through collective efforts, awareness, and sustainable practices, we can mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, reduce pollution, preserve biodiversity, and ensure a better future for generations to come.

SUI celebrated this day in different places especially, Mumbai, Kolkota and Varanasi.
